Garibaldi Neve Traverse

So last weekend I did the Garibaldi Neve traverse. This was a 45km trail over glaciers and a permanent snowfield (the neve). I went with friends from the UBC outdoor club. We stayed in two huts - Sphinx hut and Elfin Lakes hut. The trip was unbelievable, the views were fantastic and the weather was gorgeous. Here are two skiers skirting the base of Mount Garibaldi before we descend onto the Neve.

Here I am with my pack when we skied out from Elfin Lakes hut. It was a warm day even on the snow and I was working hard, hence the t-shirt.

Carly, how do you get at the top of the mountain, do you walk or do you go by helicopter.

To get to the top we had to skin up. So we put on our skis and on the bottom of the skis we stuck skins which had fake hair that would let us slide the ski forward but not backward so you could ski uphill.

We could drive to the snowline but on the first day we had to climb 1km up (plus 15km across). The next day was only 500 or 600m up but there was some up and down and another 15km. The last day was mainly down 500m and another 15km. The road is better on that side so we didn't have to ski all the way down.

Then it was some more car switching and we were on our way home to Vancouver.
