Garibaldi Neve Traverse

So last weekend I did the Garibaldi Neve traverse. This was a 45km trail over glaciers and a permanent snowfield (the neve). I went with friends from the UBC outdoor club. We stayed in two huts - Sphinx hut and Elfin Lakes hut. The trip was unbelievable, the views were fantastic and the weather was gorgeous. Here are two skiers skirting the base of Mount Garibaldi before we descend onto the Neve.

Here I am with my pack when we skied out from Elfin Lakes hut. It was a warm day even on the snow and I was working hard, hence the t-shirt.

Our own way down to Texas

Marianne warming up after spending a minus 4 degree night in the trailer. We spent a few hours in the Museum of Appalachia in Tennessee and we couldn't resist warming up at this great fireplace. The weather in Texas has been great with days of 30 degree temperatures with warm breezes.

Carly In Vancouver - horse show and skiing

I entered my very first horse show. There were 5 of us on the two horses and you can tell from the average age it wasn't a very big show. However, I didn't fall off and I even got a flying lead change so it was a good day.

Here's another picture from a morning trip skiing up one of the local mountains. It turned out to be a beautiful day. First we put skins on our skis and went up and then we teleskied down.

Happy New Year - 2008

Rastis breaking trail in the snow

some winter cheer in the house

a gathering of cousins - Christmas 2007

Our visitor was certainly anticipating getting at that bird feeder - the snow is too deep in the bush for them to get food so we have had a lot of visitors but it has been great for snow angels

Spicey Thai Pizza and Names

This pizza went over well when served on the Sunday movie night.

  • roll out dough or buy premade crusts.
  • Sauce = spicy thai peanut sauce (or maybe peanut satay sauce, it all has different names for different brands).
  • Cover with mozzarella cheese.
  • toppings: fresh cilantro, grated carrot, caramelized onion and precooked chicken breast pieces.
  • Bake in the oven at 400F till cheese is melted.
Finally, here is an interesting webpage on names. You can type a name in to view it in more detail.

Boxing Day at the farm

Carly and I walked to the back of our farm and saw this hawk flying around. He just kept circling and shrieking at us.
Bert received a new camera for Christmas and we took this picture of Age's horses across our creek with the new long lens.

Jamie-Lynn and i were recently down in Florida enjoying a break from the snow. Pictured here, i was picking out a new purse for Jamie-Lynn for Christmas. Did i mention how nice it was to see the sun again?

We always cut small branches to put around our Christmas stable and that's what I am doing on this picture.

Here is Bert cutting our tree at the back of our farm. Good thing we did it yesterday because we are having a major snowstorm right now.

I'll be home for Christmas

Hello everyone,

There's been no posts for a while so I thought I would put up some pictures of when I was hiking this past weekend. There's no snow in Vancouver but when you go up, there's lots. We went hiking up to Brew Hut and stayed overnight.

Here we are on one of our many lunch stops on the way up to the hut.

Here is Brew Hut, set up in a really windy spot so that snow doesn't accumulate because previous huts were always destroyed or moved by the huge amounts of snow. I like how the top floor window has a handle on it so you can dig down to the hut when its buried and go through the upstairs.

Here's a beautiful shot at sunset looking back towards Black tusk (the tooth like thing). Its a really popular hiking destination and I think the very first post on this blog was back before I hurt my knee and had hiked (with some of the same people) to Black Tusk and had climbed it. Its a straightforward hike, just some scrambling at the end but it looks very dramatic doesn't it. If you're skiing at Whistler you see the tusk edge on.

We arrived at the Kinkora Hall for the 8 p.m. wedding ceremony and reception.

And here are the most enthusiastic dancers at the party!
