Mount Rushmore

This picture of Bert and Carly at Lynn Valley in B.C. close to the Capilana Suspension Bridge was taken about a week or so ago.

We are just now leaving the Mount Rushmore area, the last big stop on our way home. Such great distances going through the prairies! Will post more pictures when we get home.

Carly's version of convocation

Sorry for the second post but I wanted to post my version of convocation. Here I am just after being hooded by the president of the University (black and white). The lady starting to clap is the chancellor.

And this is outside of convocation where I am holding the UBC mace which opens and closes ceremonies. It was carved by Bill Reid and it was very heavy.

Carly's Convocation

The graduation ceremony was quite impressive and Carly thought this was some hat!!

Hiking in B.C.

Carly, Bert and I spent the day at Lynn Valley which is the area where the Capillana Suspension Bridge is.

First pear tree to bloom

One of our pear trees is blooming and it seems to have a lot of blooms this year. Unfortunately the pears never taste good no matter when I pick them. I keep experimenting with the right time to pick them. This tree is a "John" type of pear. Our others are Bartletts and a Bosc. So far I haven't had much luck with any of the five pear trees that we have! They are one of the reasons that we started beekeeping!

Spring IS here!!!!

After years on the farm I have not seen a goat give birth yet!!!! Shawn and I happened to go back to the area to do some work for his sister and we needed some eggs so we stopped at mom and dads!!! Just after supper Sonja went to the barn and moments later came back to say there were legs and a nose stickin out. So we ran to the barn but had already missed it, but we waited and then there came a second one! So cool!!!!

All in a days work

This is my former carport, rotted, and beyond help.

Carefully and methodically, the walls and roof are removed.

Dave and Jeff were kind enough to offer help.

And now...the real work can begin.

view of our campsite

This was the view from the front of our campsite at the State Park where we stayed for a month. The lake's water level was really high this year so these lovely smelling blackbush were in the water.

Carly has passed her defence

Yeah, passed my defence, have minor corrections and I'm done! At the next family dinner it will be "Dr. Huitema, will you please pass the potatoes". Right? Right?!!

Our adventurous trip to Texas

This is what we woke up to the first morning of the ice storm. Luckily there was a truck between us and the downed power lines. The night before we spent in a rest area after driving through a blinding snowstorm. But it is warm in Texas!!!!
This was the devastation that we came upon once leaving the Pilot Truck Stop/Gas Station. There still was no power but luckily a trucker gave us enough diesel to get out of the area. Of course the first gas station we came to was out of fuel but we made it to a small town away from the interstate and we were on our way.

On the edge of the pyramid...it's a long way down.
